Midget Registration

The Meramec Sharks are pleased to announce our intention to field 16U AA and 16U A midget

teams for the 2026/27 season! Both teams will participate in the Missouri Hockey 16U AA and

16U A divisions respectively for the upcoming season.

Coaches

Both teams will be head coached by non-parent coaches for the upcoming season. The Sharks are proud to announce Matt Wertheimer and Nate Theurer as coaches for the upcoming season.

Both coaches have an extensive background in coaching youth hockey, including many seasons with the Sharks. They will be closely coordinated throughout the season to build effective systems and player development across both teams.

16U AA – Matt Wertheimer

Matt Wertheimer is entering his 12th season of coaching youth hockey in the St. Louis area. Matt is USA Hockey Level 5 and USA Hockey Goaltending Silver certified coach with experience at all age levels and skill of youth hockey. Past teams have earned multiple state championships along with finishing runner up in the USA Hockey National Championship. Matt’s attention to detail, commitment to developing players and well-balanced successful teams has boosted numerous prior players to higher levels of hockey.

16U A – Nate Theurer

Nate Theurer is entering his 15th season of coaching with the Sharks, including coaching high school hockey at Fox for multiple seasons during his career. Nate is a USA Hockey Level 5 certified coach with experience at all age levels and skill of youth hockey. Past teams have excelled with Nate’s leadership and player development to win a state championship and exceed season expectations.

Midget Program Costs

Registration cost for the Fall/Winter 2026/27 season will be $775 per player. Each team will have at least one practice per week during the season, in addition to scheduled league games.

Players will also be responsible for the purchase of team jersey and socks for the midget program. Players should anticipate an approximate additional cost of $275 per player. Jerseys selected for the upcoming season are anticipated to be used in following seasons.

Depending on the makeup and commitment of the teams formed, it is possible for players to anticipate 1 to 2 in town tournaments to supplement league games.

Pre Skate Information

The Sharks will hold 3 pre skate ice sessions that are optional to prepare for tryouts. These pre skates will be ran by the 16U coaches for the upcoming season.

Cost of pre skates will be $40 per player. Goalies are free. Space will be limited to 35 skaters and 4 goalies.

Wednesday, July 15: 7:45pm – 8:45pm

Thursday, July 16: 7:15pm – 8:15pm

Saturday, July 18: 11:45am – 12:45pm

Tryout Information

Tryout will take place at the Shark Tank during the dates and times listed below. If you are unable to make any of the tryouts posted, please contact Nate Theurer.

Cost of tryouts will be $40 per player. If a player makes either of the teams, the cost will be credited towards their fall registration fee. The Sharks reserve the right to make cuts at any point during the tryout process after the first session.

Tuesday, July 28: 8:00pm – 9:00pm

Wednesday, July 29: 6:30pm – 7:30pm

Thursday, July 30: 6:30pm – 7:30pm
